Despite his involvement in a sex scandal with former friend Jeffrey Epstein, Prince Andrew, Duke of York, is heading to Davos and will represent British business at the annual event in Switzerland. The Royal Family must have had absolutely no one to represent British business at Davos to have decided on Prince Andrew to act as ambassador at the event.
In addition to his business duties, Prince Andrew also intends to give a TV interview discussing his alleged involvement in the sex scandal! The Daily Beast reports that The Duke of York plans to deny any involvement in the sex scandal, which involved him with very young, and some underage, girls. Ever the opportunist, Prince Andrew is using the event to his benefit to tell his side of the story which involved his former close friend Jeffrey Epstein.
He is also hoping to redeem himself and rebuild his image, which won’t be easy based on his lack of experience or proven abilities as a successful business man. Critics wonder why Prince Andrew would be sent to represent British business given the fact that he is embroiled in an unsavory scandal, he knows nothing other than over-indulgence, he comes from a privileged background, and has nothing to support he has any sense of business whatsoever.
A Palace spokesman said Andrew would be at Davos to “remind the audience of the strength and dynamism of UK entrepreneurship,” reports The Daily Beast. Many believe, however, that Prince Andrew may remind attendees of many things – British business not being one of them. Given the fact Prince Andrew was given a home as a wedding gift by The Queen, it is easy to see why The Duke of York is gaining critics. One critic, former home Office Minister Norman Baker, didn’t hold back when sharing his concerns over the legitimacy of Prince Andrew’s overseas trips: “When MPs go abroad, or Ministers, or indeed the Queen, we know exactly what role they are undertaking. We don’t know with Andrew.”
Norman Baker also said of Prince Andrew’s connections: they are “not [what] someone representing Britain ought to be having.” Given his shady background and penchant for over-indulgence, sex with young girls, and an over-the-top lifestyle, it would seem he would be the last choice to represent British business at Davos. The Royal Family seems to have just swept the scandal under the rug.
